Ping

Quick check that a target is reachable, how long it takes and whether packets are lost. ping -c 5

Traceroute

Shows every router on the path to the target. Useful to see where a route goes wrong. traceroute -n

MTR

Traceroute repeated 5 times with loss and latency per hop. The most useful output when reporting a problem. mtr -r -c 5
